New York, Connecting International Struggles to Local Struggles
From July 11th-18th there will be events in New York at the UN under the High Level Political Forum that will focus on Sustainable Goal #11. It is an opportunity for civil society to become more involved in the process. Saturday July 14th in Brook Park, 494 E. 141st St. join the local/international activists from South Bronx Unite, Picture the Homeless, International Alliance of Inhabitants, Communities Action for Safe Apartments, Street Vendors Project and Global Platform for the Right to the City.
From July 11th-18th as part of the UN Habitat process there will be events at the UN called the High Level Political Forum (HLPF). The Forum will focus on Sustainable Goal #11 (see attached pdf). It is an opportunity for civil society to become more involved in the process.
The Global Platform on the Right to the City (GPR2C) which had been a part of the process but was subsequently removed and now stands alone as a mandate for future development around the world along with its membership from around the world will be in the city for the HLPF and various side events. One of the side events will take place Saturday July 14th from 12:00-4:00pm in Brook Park, 494 E. 141st St.
Billed as a Community Dinner-Meet & Greet the event will bring special guest to the Bronx to have a discussion on environmental issues, displacement, housing/homelessness, land access and gentrification/rezoning all issues negatively affecting long time residents of the Bronx.
Along with members of the GPR2C, we are expecting a special visitor from the UN Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights.

A COMMUNITY DINNER / MEET & GREET WITH INTERNATIONAL HOUSING ACTIVISTS
Join the international activists from the Global Platform for the Right to the City for a conversation on building a global movement for housing as a human right.
How do we frame housing as a human right? How do activists think about the local and global in real time, and develop networks of solidarity? What do alternatives look like, and how do we grow them on scale?
Speakers include representations from: South Bronx Unite, Picture the Homeless, International Alliance of Inhabitants, Communities Action for Safe Apartments, Street Vendors Project, and Global Platform for the Right to the City.

Following the conversation, there will be a community dinner. Free and open to the public.
