Protesters march against foreclosures in Philadelphia
Two dozen people braved the cold to march around Center City to protest mortgage foreclosures.
Chanting save our homes, Members of the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign took to the sidewalks in Center City, visiting closed banks to complain about how they are handling the current foreclosure situation.
Rev. Robert Johnson says he was evicted from his Philadelphia home in March as a result of a dispute with his bank.
"Almost a year ago we lived in a nice townhouse in a nice community with nice neighbors," said Johnson. "Now we are living in a hotel that is not home, our lives have been shattered in every way."
Claudia Johnson (no relation) of Lewes, Del., complained about how a mortgage her brother took out on a home she co-owns with him is resulting in a Sheriff's sale.
"I don't owe nothing on that house, and I don't think they should be playing games with the American people because they have suffered hard and long enough," said Johnson.
Philadelphia's Sheriff has declared a moratorium on foreclosure sales, while the office and the outside contractor used to sell foreclosed homes are investigated.
