Campagne Zéro Expulsion

Acknowledgement by Tenants Union, Port Harcourt, Nigeria

From: National Union of Tenants of Nigeria
Date: 2009/4/26

Dear Jimmy,

The National Union of Tenants of Nigeria expresses its profound gratitude to the Israeli Committee against House Demolition (ICAHD) for organizing a peaceful demonstration in Tel Aviv to protest against the ongoing evictions and demolitions in Port Harcourt by the Government of Rivers State of Nigeria.

We therefore acknowledge, with thanks, the ICAHD’s understanding of the situation in Port Harcourt, as it affects people’s right to housing, and the initiative taken to highlight the sufferings of the people of Port Harcourt who have been deprived of this right by government.

I must confess that ICAHD’s effort to resolve the situation in Port Harcourt, which is exhibited in the planned demonstration, is the first of its kind ever recorded in the history of Nigeria evictions and in those of the other African countries.

This gesture, in fact, calls for a closer partnership between Nigerian and Palestinian tenants, which cause we are desirous of promoting to the last letter. Towards this end, we condemn the ongoing evictions and demolitions in Palestine and will mobilize our colleagues in Nigeria to also do the same.

Thanks a million and God bless you all.
