Popular as Asia’s largest slum, Dharavi is one of the most dense and layered human settlements in world. Sprawled over 175 hectares in heart of trade capital of India, Bombay, Dharavi is a home to approximately 1 million people mostly unofficial/illegal migrants, from diverse language groups, religious communities & economic units intrinsically weaved together. Most Dharavi people are urban artisans or small scale entrepreneurs functioning from outer space of their one-storey shanties, benefiting from the seamlessness in their living & working space. Dharavi is currently under the eye of storm as it is charted for a massive redevelopment which implies mass eviction & rehabilitation of all those millions of its diverse residents. This video is an interview with Mr. Ghansod Bhai Tank a resident of Kumbharwada, a community of potters in Dharavi. In this interview ghanshodbhai questions the meaning & the impact of redevelopment.
