Together let’s build the World Days for the Right to Habitat 2011
Step one: A call for slogans (July 1-10, 2011)
The various international networks for the right to housing that signed the World Assembly Declaration, Convergence of Inhabitants for the Right to Habitat , have committed to making World Habitat Day in October 2011 an important day for raising awareness of and rallying against forced evictions, insecurity of tenure and land grabbing, in solidarity with activists for the right to habitat and with inhabitants struggling with repression and the violation of their civil and political rights.
To achieve this, we have established a Liaison Committee, and we ask everyone who signed the Dakar Declaration and all other organizations or people who have fought for the right to housing to share, through this Blog , the topics, strategies and methods they plan to use in their fight at the local, regional and global levels to ensure the campaign’s success. This Blog is one of the collective tools that we’re creating, open to all signatories of the WAI Dakar Declaration, to share initiatives and suggestions within the context of the Convergence of Inhabitants for the Right to Housing.
The first step is to collectively decide on a rallying slogan for the 2011 World Days, taking place from September 15 to October 31.
We therefore invite you to go to the Blog to vote on one of the proposed slogans or to suggest others.
How (it’s very easy!):
1. You can vote on one (or more) of the proposed slogans.
2. You can suggest other slogans in the space provided.
The slogans should be concise and inspiring, and should be based on the themes decided during the WAI in Dakar:
• the causes and effects of evictions, and the suffering and impoverishment of those affected
• solidarity with activists for the right to habitat who have been victimized by repression and violation of their civil and political rights.
You can vote/suggest other slogans, comments and proposal on this section from July 1 to July 10, 2011.
